Miscellaneous: He rose from the ranks to become a powerful leader
in the revolution against Spain. When Bonifacio was executed with his tacit
approval, he became the supreme leader and dictator of the revolution.
He is best remembered for the proclamation of Philippine independence on June 12, 1898
in Kawit, Cavite. During his term, the Malolos Republic was created with all the ingredients
of a republican government. He continued to led the fight, despite its futility,
against the U.S. until he was captured in Palanan by General Funston.
Roughly two weeks later, in April 1, 1901, he pledged allegiance to the US.
