Miscellaneous: He was Quezon's main partner in the country's quest for freedom. He became
president of the commonwealth after Quezon's death in 1944. He established the commonwealth govt-in-exile
in the United States during WWII. After the war he lead the country to the road of recovery.
He ran for re-election in 1946, but refused to campaign, saying that the people
knew about his record of 40 years of honest and faithful service. Subsequently, he
lost the election to Manuel Roxas who was tacitly supported by Gen. MacArthur.
History would remember him as a selfless patriot and a dedicated public servant.
