TGIFs & BROOKHAVEN
2008-2009 CALENDAR

These weekly TGIFs & Brookhaven, sponsored by the BNL Social & Cultural Club of the Brookhaven Employees Recreation Association (BERA), is held weekly at the Brookhaven Center, Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), unless otherwise stated on the calendar below. It is open to the general public. Visitors to the Lab 16 years old and older must bring a photo ID.
In winter time, for safety reasons, the Lab may close temporarily when there is a severe snowstorm. When there is inclement weather, before coming out to Brookhaven Lab, please check first with BNL's info hotline: 631-344-info (4636), or visit our website at: http://www.bnl.gov. Canceled events will be re-scheduled.
Unless otherwise noted, each "TGIF @ Brookhaven" has dance workshops and lessons from 7:30 pm to 9:15 pm; the first 30 minutes is usually for the beginners taught by Rudy Alforque, folllowed by an hour of instructions by various instructors as shown in the table below. Cold-buffet dinner opens at 7 pm. Open social dancing begins immediately after the lessons up to 11:30 pm. (See "Directions to BNL" below).
Cost per person: $16(members)/$20(non-members), or $10/$15 for social dancing only without the lessons; members rate applies also to all Bera members with BNL ID, SDLI members with ID, students with school ID, and all subscribers of the Social-L list and the Yahoo DanceLovers group. (Special events have different rates).

*Special Event: $30 per person. Only 120 tickets will be available. If sold out before the event, no tickets will be sold at the door. Buffet dinner: 8:00 - 9:00 pm; complimentary dance lesson at 9:00 pm; DJ music, general dancing until 1 a.m.

Starting in April 3rd, and every TGIF thereafter, I will be giving a BEGINNERS class from 7:30 to 8:00 pm. Each Fridays Beginners class will be the dance that is scheduled to be taught the following week by our invited instructor. For example, on April 10th, the beginners class will be Bachata, while the main class from 8:15 to 9:15 will be Foxtrot.

Directions to BNL:

Go to LIE Exit 68 north on William Floyd Parkway (There are signs to: Brookhaven National Laboratory). About 2.4 kilometers (1 1/2 miles) away, turn right (before the second light) to BNL's gate. Present your picture ID (driver's license) to the guard. From the Guard Booth, go straight, turn left at the first light; A few meters away, on your left, is the Brookhaven Center.
